Indonesia Introduces New Finance Facility to Meet Paris Climate Agreement Goals

A new facility has been introduced in Indonesia that will be used to promote economic development to stimulate green growth and improve rural livelihoods.

The Tropical Landscapes Finance Facility, consisting of a loan fund and a grant fund, aims to achieve climate targets set under the Paris Agreement.

It will make public funding available to finance renewable energy production and sustainable landscape management.

Sweden To Reach 100% Renewable Electricity By 2040, According To Reuters

A Reuters report quoting a top Swedish regulatory official has revealed that Sweden is on track to be 100% renewable electricity reliant by 2040.

Writing on Tuesday, Reutersreported that a top regulatory official from Sweden, Anne Vadasz Nilsson, Director General of the Swedish Energy Markets Inspectorate, had said Sweden would be able to produce all its electricity from renewable energy source by 2040. Sweden already generates 57% of its 159 TWh power production from renewables such as hydro and wind, with the remainder coming from nuclear. The push to 100% renewable electricity, therefore, is not so far out of the question.

·        The United States will reveal its decarbonization strategy at a United Nations climate summit in Morocco next month, and the lead negotiator says carbon capture and natural gas will play a role for years to come, Bloomberg BNA reports.  
·        U.S. Special Envoy for Climate Change Jonathan Pershing said at a conference recently that as far out as 2050, natural gas generation and carbon capture on those plants would remain a part of the strategy alongside renewable energy.
·        At the Paris climate negotiations last year, almost 200 nations agreed to keep the impact of climate change below 2 degrees Celsius. For the United States, that will mean cutting emissions 26% by 2025.
